The Choi lab has published a new study on West Nile virus in Journal of Virology
The Choi Lab's latest study shows how West Nile virus polymerase recognizes its RNA promoter, stem-loop A. Excitingly, RNA decoys mimicking this structure can block viral replication and infection. This work was led by Mandi Feinberg & My Le in collaboration with the Barrett Lab at UTMB.

Co-authors include My Le and Keerthi Gottipati (co-corresponding author). The publication explores how coxsackievirus protease recognizes a viral RNA structure known as the cloverleaf.

Kay Choi receives NIH $2.3 million award to investigate flavivirus RNA replication mechanism
Kay Choi has been awarded a $2.3 million R01 grant by the NIH. The renewed 5-year grant will fund her lab's research on flavivirus replication mechanism.
Dimagi Dias received a FASEB scholarship to present her work at the 2024 FASEB Virus Structure and Function meeting, in Southbridge, MA. The $2,500 scholar will help cover her registration, lodging and travel expenses. Her poster is titled 'Cloverleaf RNA Interactions with 3CDpro and PCBP2 at the 5' End of Coxsackievirus genome'.

Dr. Keerthi Gottipati and Dr. Kay Choi received an NIH R21 award, titled “Structure of HIV Rev response element.” They will investigate the structure of HIV Rev response element (RRE) and how RRE specifically assembles the Rev protein on the RNA structure.

The Choi lab has published a new study on HIV Rev response element (RRE) RNA. HIV RRE is required for nuclear export of intron-containing viral mRNA transcripts. This work, titled 'Structure of HIV-1 RRE stem-loop II identifies two conformational states of the high-affinity Rev binding site' is published in Nature communications. The authors include Jerricho Tipo and Keerthi Gottipati.
